How an Interior French Drain Actually Works

Contractors cut a channel around the inside perimeter of the basement slab, typically 8–12 inches wide and deep enough to reach the footing. A perforated pipe in the channel, surrounded by gravel, carries water seeping through the foundation walls or up through the cold joint to a sump pit, where a pump sends it away from the house.
